Curriculum

Classical Japanese martial arts is an endeavor of the mind, body and spirit. Motivations for study are many and they usually change over time. The curriculum includes many aspects, physical, intellectual, ethical, socio – historical to name just a few.

All students are required to read over time:

Dave Lowry, Sword and Brush

Oscar Ratti & Adele Westbrook, Secrets of the Samurai

During practice we will usually start with the basics:

Shinbo (staff)

Jujutsu (mostly unarmed techniques)

Other themes of practice will vary over time. Takenouchi-ryu is very rich in techniques and weapons, and we have lots of choices.
